BROMSGROVE Sporting took another step towards the Junior Premier League National Finals with a stunning 3-1 win against Coventry City’s development side.
Sporting produced another fantastic performance at a freezing Woodfield Academy in Redditch to book their place in the National Cup semi-finals.
And the win means Bromsgrove have now beaten four teams from a higher Junior Premier League division after victories against Kidderminster Harriers (2-0), Solihull Academy (3-2) and King’s Lynn (3-2) – the latter result coming following a seven-hour round trip.
Against Coventry, Sporting’s Miki Sikora opened the scoring with a smart finish under the goalkeeper following a neat exchange of passes on the edge of the penalty area.
Bromsgrove missed further chances to extend their lead in the first half before Coventry drew level after the break with a goal from a corner.
However, Sporting reclaimed the lead after winning a corner at the other end as Sikora scored his second of the game at the far post.
And despite playing the final few minutes with 10-men, Sporting stunned the Sky Blues when Sikora completed his hat-trick with a sublime lob from 20-yards out following a rapid counter attack.
Sporting’s under-13’s will now play a team from either Yorkshire or Lancashire in the semi-finals with a final against Dartford (Essex) awaiting the winners.
Under-13’s manager and former Sporting player, Chris Morrison, said: “It’s an incredible effort from the team to get this far and it’s purely down to their dedication at training and commitment to each other on the pitch.
“We’re excited to not only see how the cup run goes but our focus is also on finishing as champions in our league this season too. Full credit to the lads.”
