BROMSGROVE Sporting are champions of Midland League Division One after they secured a 2-0 victory over local rivals Studley.

In what was a scrappy clash in front of 1,351 fans at the Victoria Ground, Bunn had given the Rouslers the lead after 21 minutes when he curled home beautifully into the far corner.

The game was then brought to a stop after 77 minutes when Studley’s right-back Keith Draper suffered what was reported to be a dislocated or broken elbow following a late challenge on Jason Cowey.

Leading scorer Cowley then scored the second goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time with a thunderous free-kick.

Despite winning 2-0, the victory did not matter as Leicester Road suffered a 2-1 defeat to Pershore and AFC Hinckley were beaten by a similar scoreline by Chelmsley Town.

Sporting started brightly when after two minutes Hewitt saw a shot spilled by Bees keeper Alistair Lewis who spilled the effort before claiming at the second time of asking.

A last ditch tackle from Luke Hennessey then prevented Cowley from scoring a one-on-one opportunity three minutes later.

Cowley then saw a near post shot saved by Lewis but the deadlock was eventually broken after 21 minutes.

Chris Lloyd saw his long ball flicked on by Hewitt into the path of Bunn who cut inside before curling home into the far corner.

But two minutes later Jon Brown had to be at his best to deny Draper’s long-range effort from levelling things up.

That was as good as it got as the first half petered out.

After the interval Bunn saw a shot curl wide of the mark before Jones headed wide Lloyd’s free-kick with 25 minutes to go.

The game was then brought to a stop after 77 minutes when Draper was seriously injured following a late challenge on Cowley.

After waiting 15 minutes for an ambulance the game eventually got underway and in the sixth minute of stoppage time Sporting got the killer second goal.

Hewitt was fouled right on the edge of the area and up-stepped Cowley to curl home the winner.

Keenan Meakin-Richards then hit the post 16 minutes later after chasing down a Studley clearance inside the area.
