Bromsgrove snap up Worcestershire's Milton for new season

BROMSGROVE have wasted little time in preparing for the new season by capturing the signature of Worcestershire pro Alex Milton for the 2019 campaign.

Boars skipper Mark Evenson believes Milton will bring a huge boost to the batting line up and hopes his acquisition will help the club fight at the top end of the Birmingham League Division One table.

Milton hit an unbeaten 104 from 181 deliveries on his Championship debut for Worcestershire in a clash against Somerset back in July.

“We are hoping to have Alex for the majority of the season which we didn’t have the luxury of Warwickshire’s Aaron Thomason last season,” he said.

“Alex is a former Bromsgrove player so he knows the club well and we are delighted to have someone of his quality on the books for next season.

“We only just about survived last season and we don’t want to go through something like that again.

“He will strengthen the batting line up and is not the kind of player who goes out all guns blazing.

“He is an accumulator of runs so we are hoping he can bat for a lot of overs next season.”

With the winter period in its infancy, Evenson told the Standard the club were not on the immediate hunt for further recruitments but stressed if something came available they would consider it.

“As a club we do our best to promote from within and allow guys who have done well to step into the first team,” added Evenson.

“We are not the kind of club which goes out in the winter and finds five or six new recruits.

“If someone came knocking on our door looking for a challenge at a big club we would not turn them away but that doesn’t mean we’d be recruiting them straight away.”
