BROMSGROVE School’s under-13A hockey team secured a bronze medal at the North and Midlands IAPS qualifier in Derbyshire.
The team travelled to Repton School to compete in the tournament but had a tough group to qualify from which included Foremarke Hall, Bilton Grange and Dean Close, all of whom have been national champions in the last four years.
Bromsgrove beat Bilton 1-0, Rossell 3-0, Ashford 1-0 and Beeston Hall 3-1 respectively before losing to Foremarke 2-1 despite being a goal ahead.
The under-13s then suffered a 1-0 defeat to Dean Close in the final group game which meant Bromsgrove finished third overall.
In the quarter-finals, Bromsgrove beat Cheltenham College 4-1 to set up a tough semi-final against Foremarke.
The scoreline was locked at 0-0 at full time which meant the team contested nerve jangling shuffles against Foremarke but unfortunately lost.
Interestingly, all four semi-finalists had been in the Bromsgrove’s group and both semi-final matches went to shuffles.
The Bromsgrove boys dusted themselves down and were now faced with a third place play-off game against Bilton Grange which they managed to win 2-0 and therefore finish in the bronze medal position overall.
More importantly, Bromsgrove secured qualification to the National Finals at Millfield School on Monday, March 20.
