BROMSGROVE Men’s B team got their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division Three East season off to the perfect start with a 3-1 victory over Bewdley B.
Juniors Jim Round and Stuart Shannon were outstanding, only dropping two games as they won 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 showing great skill and matchplay awareness.
Voitek Niedzwiedz and Ash Rutter had two tight three-set battles.
They came from behind to win their first 6-2 in the final set but then narrowly went down 7-6 in the deciding set of their last rubber.
Captain Niedzwiedz said: “Jim and Stuart really showed their potential.
“It’s great for the club that the coaching programme is producing so many great junior players who are really making their mark in the club teams.”
The Ladies D team opened their Division Four East campaign with a narrow away win at rivals Droitwich B.
Each pair of Debbie Oliver with Marie Hackett and Beccy Smith with Lisa Rushton won a rubber, leaving the match score at 2-2.
However, the extra set won by Smith and Rushton in a three-set game gave Bromsgrove the overall victory.
It was even tighter for the Men’s C team who managed to overcome Cookley A in Division Five East.
In some incredibly close contests decided by tie breaks, John Casey with Tim Wright and Max Feltham with Charlie Tait each won a rubber.
However, Casey and Wright took the extra set when losing 6-2, 4-6, 6-7 to give Bromsgrove another good win.
Elsewhere, the Ladies A team beat the club’s B team 4-0 in their Division Two encounter while the Men’s D team got the better of the Men’s E squad by the same score in Division Eight East.
