BROMSGROVE Hockey Ladies maintained their 100 per cent winning record as they enjoyed a 5-2 victory over Pershore.

Two goals from Tricky Burton, singles from Stacey Nash and Laura Underhill along with an own-goal ensured the ladies picked up their tenth straight win in Division One of the Worcestershire Hockey League.

Despite missing four key squad members, Bromsgrove rode a bit of early Pershore pressure to go ahead in the most unusual of circumstances.

After Heather Nunnerley’s effort from a penalty corner was saved by the Pershore keeper, their defender tried to clear but could only succeed in netting an own-goal.

Bromsgrove doubled their advantage through a wonderful team goal.

Central defender Emma Cockbain won the ball in her own half before passing to Nash. Nash picked out Underhill who glided past her marker to pick out Burton.

Burton isolated her defender before firing home from close range to give Bromsgrove a 2-0 half time lead.

Early in the second half, Bromsgrove added a third as Underhill hammered home an unstoppable cross shot.

Bromsgrove added a fourth shortly after as Underhill combined with Claire Hancock to find Burton who out-muscled the Pershore keeper to slot home.

Pershore battled on and managed to find the net but Bromsgrove bounced right back as Nash got on the scoresheet after collecting a pass from Burton to complete their scoring.

With legs tiring, Pershore added a second late on to reduce the deficit.

Coach Alan Gormley said: “We knew Pershore were a good side so we had to put everything into this game, especially as we were so short of players in the squad.

“To their credit the girls worked tirelessly for each other and thoroughly deserved their victory. It was a fine team effort by the girls.”

Bromsgrove Ladies 2s gained a valuable point against a very experienced Tenbury 1s side.

Both sides had chances to claim the win, with Bromsgrove almost stealing a smash-and-grab in the last minute but Wendy martin’s effort rolled agonisingly wide.

Bromsgrove Ladies 3s enjoyed success as they claimed a 3-0 victory over Stourport 5s courtesy of goals from Nina Hobson, Claire Rippin and Sal White.

Meanwhile, Bromsgrove Ladies 4s edged out local neighbours Droitwich 2s 1-0 with the only goal of the gaming coming from Ellie McVeigh.

Elsewhere, Bromsgrove’s Men’s 1s secured a comfortable 6-0 victory over Solihull Blossomfield.

A hat-trick from man of the match Mark Robinson and further goals from Alex Jenkins, Harry Eastgate and Andy Langlands sealed the victory.

First team captain Karl Troth, said: “This was a tricky fixture for us but the manor of the victory was particularly impressive.

“It was great that we kept our discipline throughout and now we’re in the top half.

“Next week, we play bottom of the table Wolverhampton and a cup game against Ludlow, so we need to maintain our focus, and hopefully get all six points.”
