Bromsgrove Ladies E get summer season off to a flier

Craig Gibbons 10th May, 2018

BROMSGROVE Ladies E opened their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division Eight East account with a 5-1 victory over David Lloyd Bromsgrove D.

The Ladies E team consisted of the winter Ladies F team which won promotion.

After a slow start the first pair of Di Horton with Claire Hancock fought back to claim victory before dispatching the second pair quickly.

Claire Andrews with Claire Nisbet opened with a good win but then went down to the David Lloyd first pair.

The new pairing of Sue Corfield with Bella Bracknall quickly gelled and pulled off two great wins to hand Bromsgrove an emphatic victory over their Bromsgrove neighbours.

The Ladies C team opened with a visit to Kempsey A for their Division Four East match.

The Kempsey first pair were in good form, beating Bromsgrove’s first pair of Steph Armstrong with Beccy Smith in a tight opener 7-5, 7-6 and second pair of Anne Simper with Marie Hackett more easily.

However, Bromsgrove’s strength in depth showed as they won the remaining four rubbers.

Lorraine Russell with Connie Wedelich were in great form and won both their contests in two sets.

With each other pair contributing a win Bromsgrove ran out 4-2 winners in a great start to the summer campaign.

Elsewhere, Bromsgrove Men’s C were beaten by Manor Park D in Division Five East.

The Bromsgrove heroes were Max Feltham and Des Brown.

Playing as third pair they ground out a great three-set victory over the opposition second pair and fought back from a set down to beat their opposite pair in three sets.

A further win by Tim Wright with Voitek Niedzwiedz gave Bromsgrove the vital third rubber to draw the match at 3-3.

However, Manor Park took the winning bonus points after winning more sets.
