BROMSGROVE Ladies A maintained their unbeaten start in Division One of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire League with a winning draw over local rivals Droitwich A.

Leading the way for Bromsgrove were the first pair of Rachel Mack with Imogen Sinclair whose two victories against the first and second Droitwich pairs were the foundation to their victory.

Sally Franks wit Tina Manning playing at second pair had a convincing win over the Droitwich third pair but lost to their first pair.

At third pair. Jilly Whitcomb with Meg Jones went down in both contests leaving the score tied at 3-3.

However, the count back on sets gave Bromsgrove victory at Whitcomb and Jones had secured the extra set needed to make it 7-6.

Captain Franks said: “We knew it would be tight against our old rivals as they’re a strong team, but once again our fighting spirit saw us through.

“It’s been a great start to the summer as the win makes it three out of three and I’m sure we’ll be challenging for the County title after being runners up in the winter competition.”

Elsewhere, an even closer result went the wrong way for Bromsgrove’s Mixed A team against David Lloyd Bromsgrove A in Division Two.

Steve Jones with Jilly Whitcomb won both their rubbers in three sets but Andy Brettle with Debbie Peglar lost their encounters in three sets.

This left the score tied at2-2 in rubbers and 6-6 in sets, but the count back on games won meant David Lloyd snatched victory by 53-51.
