Bromsgrove Ladies A beat Manor Park to kick-off new summer season

BROMSGROVE Ladies A opened their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division One account with a 5-1 victory over Manor Park (Malvern).

Rachael Mak with Imogen Sinclair and Sally Franks with Tina Manning played first and second pairs and had no trouble dispatching the opposition in two-set victories.

At third pair, Veronika Kumherova with Joan McGregor just missed out on making it a clean sweep for Bromsgrove.

After a two-set win in the first game, they were just edged out in a tight three-set match in the second.

The Ladies D team enjoyed a 5-1 victory over rivals Droitwich E in Division Seven East.

Sarah Davies with Yvonne Priestman and Carol Cornellison with Jane Corbett each had two good wins, but first pair of Jenny Buckey with Ros Cooke came unstuck in their second match.

Ladies captain Sally Franks was delighted with both results.

“Both the A and D teams put in great performances against strong opposition to get the season off to a great start for Bromsgrove Ladies,” she said.

Elsewhere, the Mixed B team started their Division Two season with a 3-1 victory over David Lloyd Dudley A.

Last minute substitute Tim Roland stepped in to replace the ill Aaron Oakes.

Playing with Rebecca Smith, they beat their opposite second pair but went down to the strong first pair.

The first pair of Phil Boardman and Di Wilson saw their first game go to a third set tie break which Bromsgrove won with a great show down the line by Wilson.

Their next rubber against the second pair was more straightforward as they won in two sets to give Bromsgrove a 3-1 win.

Captain Smith said: “This was a great win. Phil and Di played really well and Tim saved us by stepping in at the last minute so it looks good for the rest of the summer.”
