BROMSGROVE’s Ladies hockey first team returned to league action with a bang following an extended winter break caused by the recent frozen spell.

The ladies romped to a more than comfortable 8-0 win over Harborne’s fourth team with the help of a hat-trick from Tricky Burton.

Warming to the occasion, Bromsgrove took the lead after just eight minutes as Burton set up Jo Eddy on the far post to force the ball home.

Burton grabbed her first goal of the afternoon three minutes late following a mazy run through the heart of the Harborne defence.

Her second goal of the game came soon after as she tidied up from a penalty corner.

Stacey Nash added a fourth before captain Heather Nunnerley lashed home from a penalty corner to make it 5-0.

On the stroke of half time, Bromsgrove grabbed their sixth goal courtesy of Vic Longmore.

The second period was a quieter affair with Burton completing her hat-trick and Eddy grabbing her second goal of the game in a comfortable 8-0 win.

Coach Alan Gormley was pleased with the result but maintains his squad need to keep up their tempo for the full match.

“It was a very good display from everyone in the squad. We looked very sharp in the first half and capitalised on every chance Harborne gave us.

“Unfortunately after half time we relaxed a little and missed as many as we scored in the first half.

“We can not afford to do that in forthcoming games as the opposition we play will be much stronger.”
