Bromsgrove Preparatory School’s under-13 Girls Hockey team have been crowned champions of the Midlands Mini Hockey Competition.

Held at Cannock Hockey Club, the girls got off to a good start in their first group match against Ellesmere College, claiming a 1-0 victory before walking away with another 1-0 win over Spratton Hall in their next match.

The girls found their final group game against King’s High Warwick tough going as the score ended 0-0, a result which saw Bromsgrove finish top of their group.

Ranby House School awaited in the quarter-finals and despite going 1-0 down early on, the girls rallied and managed to get the equaliser to send the match to penalty strokes which Bromsgrove won.

Bromsgrove met King’s High Warwick once again in the semi-finals but this time they got the better of their opponents and walked away with a 1-0 win to book their place in the final against The Elms Nottingham.

In the final, Bromsgrove played their best hockey of the day to run out 2-0 winners, a result which qualified them for a place in the National Finals as Midlands champions.

Jenny Weller, head of PE and games in the Preparatory School, said: “The girls played some fantastic hockey to win the under-13 Midlands Mini Hockey tournament and we are very much looking forward to competing in the National Finals in May at Beeston Hockey Club.

“This is yet another great sporting result for the school and we are all very proud.”
