BROMSGROVE’S B team are still awaiting their first victory in Division Two of the Women’s Herefordshire & Worcestershire Winter League after a 6-4 defeat at Ross-on-Wye A.

Hannah Weston and Kelly Kenward got the visitors off to a bright start after their 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 defeat of Val Davies and Brenda Saunders, but Ross pair Sarah Drake and Manda Kieman overturned the scores by beating Rebecca Smith and Joan McGregor 6-4, 7-6.

Another straight sets 6-1, 6-3 loss for Smith and McGregor against the home duo of Davies and Saunders then followed.

Weston and Kenward had a 6-2, 6-2 success over Drake and Kieman but Bromsgrove ended up on the losing side to stay second-bottom in the table.

David Lloyd Bromsgrove B also tasted a 6-4 defeat, going down to rivals David Lloyd Worcester B in Women’s Division Six East.

Bromsgrove’s Heather Wersocki and Amanda Jukes lost their first rubber 6-2, 6-3 to Alison Hanson and Claire Parker, though Deborah Pegler and Wendy Goodhill made amends by overcoming Anne Watson and Stephanie Combe 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Bromsgrove’s opening duo lost in even more straightforward terms 6-0, 6-1 to Watson and Combe, so Pegler and Goodhill’s 6-1, 6-1 success against Hanson and Parker was not enough to seal an overall victory.

DL Bromsgrove moved up to fifth in the standings despite the loss.

A title challenge is on for Bromsgrove F in Men’s Division 11 East after an 8-2 win against Halesowen D.

Hosts Bromsgrove stumbled in the opening match, as Harrison Lea and Brian Taylor went down 6-4, 6-4 to Gary Pitcher and Philip Robinson.

Momentum then switched in Bromsgrove’s favour when Richard Hope and Brian Barton secured a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash against Paul Bearley and Tony Lau.

Lea and Taylor did find success in their second rubber, beating Bearley and Lau 6-2, 6-1, before Hope and Barton wrapped up proceedings against Pitcher and Robinson, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Second-placed Bromsgrove are six points behind Worcester I with a game in hand.
