Brain returns to Bromsgrove Sporting as star man Cowley forced to take month out with groin injury

FAN-FAVOURITE Sean Brain is to return to Bromsgrove Sporting as star striker Jason Cowley is set to spend a spell on the sidelines with a niggling groin injury.

Popular among the Sporting faithful, Brain finished as the club’s top scorer in the 2015/16 Midland League Division One season with 22 goals in 48 appearancesĀ before making a move to Rugby Town in October last year.

However, things did not work out for the former Stratford Town product at The Valley and was soon back on the Rouslers’ books.

But with first-team chances limited, Brain moved on to Littleton where he bagged ten goals in 23 appearances in all competitions.

Following his spell with the Ton Boys, Brain spent this pre-season with Southern League Division One South & West outfit Evesham United.

But the striker was not taken on board by Robins boss Paul Collicutt and with Sporting’s contracted striker Cowley needing a month out to recover from a groin problem, Sporting boss Smith has acted fast to bring in a replacement.

“Jason will play for anything but I have had to make the difficult decision to leave him out,” he said.

“We have tried nursing the injury but there’s still a problem so he’s going to need a month out to recover.

“And with that leaving me with just two out-and-out strikers in Wade Malley and Chrisi Conway, I needed to make a quick decision to bring someone in.

“It just happened to be good timing that Sean was available and everyone knows how highly regarded he is by the fans.

“Sean is very excited and it gives him a huge opportunity to stake a claim going forward.”

The forms for Brain’s transfer are expected to be finalised tonight and Smith is hopeful of having the striker ready for Saturday’s FA Cup extra preliminary round tie against Coleshill Town.
