WITH the cross country season now in full swing, it was the turn of the Midlands Cross Country Relays to take centre stage at Aldersley Stadium in Wolverhampton on Saturday.

Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club juniors were in the thick of the action and had three in a team as they completed one 3km lap each, whilst the men and women had four per team across their 6km two-lap course.

Yet again the club’s juniors showed their strength throughout the age groups.

In the U13 boys’ race Josh Robins showed what fine form he is in with first place in 11.31 and fastest on the day.

Harry Williams was sixth in 14.00 and Joe Cunliffe fifth in 11.47.
With a fastest leg and fourth fastest on the day, this secured fifth position for the team.

In the U13 girls’ race Ellie Pardy was third in 13.11 and eighth fastest on the day.

Sophie Groom was fourth in 13.20 and Esme Ranger fifth in 14.42 and the B&R U13 girls secured third place as two B teams finished in front of them and only A teams count.

The U15 girls’ race brought a sixth placed finish for Anna Nicod in 13.00, third for Beth Sykes in 13.05 and seventh for Lauren Fowler in 14.40 as the trio secured seventh position in the team event.

The U17 girls’ race (A team) saw Ellen Bowen finish fifth in 12.37 in the eighth fastest time of the day, whilst Amy Mijovic-Couldwell was third in 12.44, fastest on the leg and sixth quickest on the day.

Chelsea Wright came fourth in 13.21 to lead the team home as they were fourth overall and just missed out on a medal.

The B team featured Eleanor Moss who was seventh in 13.28 and Alice Battey who finished sixth in 13.40 but the club could not complete a team.

Unfortunately there were no men’s, women’s or masters team taking part for B&R, but Redditch athlete Joe Smith was in action for his first claim club on the second leg and helped Tipton Harriers to first place with a time of 21.04 as they went on to win the Midlands Relays.

The English Cross Country Association National Cross Country Relays with be held on Saturday, November 5 at Mansfield.

On the same day, the second Gloucestershire Cross Country League meeting is being held at The Crypt School in Gloucester.
