AVONCROFT’S up and down Worcestershire County League Division Three campaign continued over the weekend as they slumped to an eight wicket defeat at Barnards Green Thirds.

The visitors struggled with the bat as they were bowled out for 176 after 37 overs with Josh Gound (35) top scoring.

George Warren (28 no), Alex Brunt (22) and Tom Murray (20) also contributed with the bat while Michael McCollum (3-51), Jack Mackintosh (2-22) and Tom Clack (2-33) did the damage with the ball for Green.

Green’s opening batsman Jez Clarke (44) fell six runs short of his half century before Kevin Golder (99 no) and Stewart Hepburn (14 no) guided the home side to 177-2 to claim victory.

Avoncroft will look to return to winning ways on Saturday when they entertain promotion hopefuls Bartestree and Lugwadine.

Avoncroft Seconds also succumbed to defeat as they lost out by one wicket to Wormelow in Division Two 2nd XI.

Wormelow won the toss and elected to field and despite all Avoncroft batsmen registering runs, they could only reach a score of 188-9 from 50 overs with Mark Wood (64) top scoring.

Joe Snow (2-33), Steven Wild (2-44) and Liam Reeves (2-42) got the share of the wickets for a Wormelow side who claimed victory with just two overs to spare.

Tim Langlands (43), Ashley Smith (38) and Wild (28) guided Wormelow to 189-9 despite the best efforts of bowlers Wood (3-27) and Mark Whitehead (3-42).
