ATHLETICS - Bromsgrove and Redditch AC promoted as champions

BROMSGROVE and Redditch AC (BRAC) won promotion as champions to Division One of the Birmingham Cross Country League.

BRAC went into the final meeting of the season having won the previous three fixtures and clinched overall victory in the fourth and final race at Top Barn in Worcester.

The four-lap course favoured the club’s star junior athlete Alex Adams who broke away from the leading group to win his second race in a row by a margin of 18 seconds.

And strong performances from Joe Smith in fourth, veteran James Marshall in 11th, Ty Adkins in 19th, Mark Appleton in 21st and Harry Gibbs in 23rd secured the Division Two title with a score of 79 points.

BRAC finished the series on a remarkable 310 points well clear of closest challengers Halesowen who were second on 736 points.

Club athletes Nick Dale in 39th, Patrick Mackie in 45th, Pete Ball in 49th, Wayne Watkins in 56th, Brett Elesmore in 61st, Thomas Reichow in 67th, Ryan Lee in 76th and Luke O’Gorman in 82nd all finished inside the top-100.




Slightly further back, Richard Banks in 105th, Andy Freeman in 118th, Will Noyce in 125th, Tom Richardson in 152nd, Ian Keyte in 169th and Mathew Clay in 170th all completed the race.

BRAC secured a clean sweep of trophies after winning the A and B team titles as well as the Masters A and B competitions.


Star runner Adams also won junior and senior gold medals alongside his team gold while Keyte completed his 110th race in the Birmingham League to move up to 17th on the all-time list.
