Achtung, fertig, los! for Town triathlete

ATHLETICS: THAT’S ready, set, go in English and Bromsgrove triathlete, Helen Russell, is gearing up to take on Europe’s best in this year’s triathlon season from her new base in Berlin.

Russell, who was recently shortlisted for Sports Personality of the Year in the Spirit of Bromsgrove Awards, has been studying and training in Germany since October after taking the brave decision to leave her full-time job and move overseas for twelve months to study a Masters degree.

Russell spent the first semester of her studies in Kassel, North Hessen where she trained with club Triathlon WVC Kassel and she is now starting to prepare for the new season with Triathlon Team Berlin, whilst spending the summer semester studying at the Berlin School of Economics and Law.

WhilE in Germany she will be racing for the prestigious Team Erdinger Alkoholfrei, which is Germany’s largest triathlon team. In Europe, Erdinger Alkoholfrei has been sponsoring sports endurance events for the last 10 years, and now the refreshing isotonic recovery drink has also been launched in the UK and is supporting a number of British triathletes.




Earlier this month Russell qualified for the European Aquathlon Championships, which will be in Cologne on May 31. The race will see Europe’s fastest triathletes take on a 1km swim in the river Rhine and then battle over a 5km run through the city centre to be crowned European Champion.
