A WYCHBOLD writer has self-published a book inspired by the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) and the world’s social and political unrest.

Philip Parrish, 44, has written The Bleeding Horizon, a sci-fi fantasy political thriller and romantic adventure novel, which launched on paperback and e-book on Saturday.

The book, set in the world’s most sophisticated skyscraper, tells the story of a political assassination on the fiction island of Galatea, where the dangers of unregulated technological power, AI, social unrest and growing corporate influence in democracy have disastrous consequences.

Philip, who lives on Worcester Road, Wychbold, said: “The Bleeding Horizon is about the conflicting impulses within us to connect or control.

“It dramatises how the seductive potency of technology, illusion and manipulative vision meet their match in courage, love and the human imagination.

“I was inspired by the rise of AI, the political instability in Europe and the US Capitol riots in January 2021.”

The Bleeding Horizon is Philip’s second book, following his debut novel Game of Life, a claustrophobic family drama influenced by the #MeToo movement.
