WORKS to transform a main road and a piece of land in Longbridge have begun.

Developer St Modwen is enhancing Longbridge Lane by building a new landscaped park.

There will also be improvements to the greenery alongside the footpath of Bournville College.

As part of the new pocket park, contractor Ground Control will be planting more than 2,600 new plants including shrubs, bulbs and 16 new trees.

And seating will create an urban oasis within the town centre which has been designed with public health and wellbeing in mind.

These improvements, funded by Birmingham City Council, are the latest in the public realm works.

Development director of St. Modwen, Elliot Sellars, said: “It’s vital we continue to strengthen the sense of community within Longbridge so we can create a town where people are proud to work, live in and visit.

“These works are crucial to heightening connectivity throughout the town, providing usable green spaces for people to enjoy.

“We’re delighted to see work beginning and look forward to seeing the finished product.”

The redevelopment of Longbridge has already seen 1,450 new homes and one million sq ft of employment space come to life, creating 3,000 jobs.

Once complete, 4,000 new homes will have been built and over two million sq ft of commercial development will have been delivered.
