Worcestershire team takes on Welsh Three Peaks Challenge to support sexual abuse survivors

A TEAM from West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (WMRSASC) is set to take on the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge this May, raising vital funds to support survivors of sexual violence across the county.

On May 2, staff will climb Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan within 24 hours – covering more than 17 miles and 2,330 metres of ascent – as part of the charity’s 40th anniversary year.

The challenge represents both a physical test of endurance and a powerful statement of support for survivors, helping to ensure that specialist, trauma-informed services remain accessible to those who need them most across Worcestershire.

Jocelyn Anderson, chief executive of WMRSASC, said: “This challenge is about more than reaching the summit. It’s about standing alongside survivors and recognising the strength it takes to seek support and begin to rebuild.

“For 40 years, WMRSASC has been there for people at some of the most difficult moments in their lives. We are proud of that work, but we also know the need for our services continues to grow.

“Every donation helps ensure that survivors across our communities have somewhere safe to turn – now and in the future.”

Funds raised through the challenge will directly support WMRSASC’s specialist services, including counselling, early intervention and prevention work, helping survivors to access timely, expert support.

WMRSASC provides free, specialist support to survivors of sexual violence across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.

Services include one-to-one counselling, early intervention and prevention work, supporting adults, children and young people to process trauma, rebuild confidence and move forward with their lives.

Counselling Services Team Lead and Adult Counsellor Lydia Johnson said: “Through funding counselling sessions, you are giving people the chance to take their power back and change their lives – and that is priceless.”

WMRSASC is encouraging individuals, businesses and communities across Worcestershire to support the challenge by donating, sharing the campaign or cheering the team on.
