A WOMAN was sexually assaulted as she walked through Sanders Park at 8.30pm last night (November 8).
The victim, who is in her 30s, was approached by a man of unknown age near the basketball courts.
She said the attacker took hold of her arm and touched her inappropriately over her clothing.
A struggle ensued and she fell to the floor. She managed to fend the man off by kicking out and running away from him.
The attacker was wearing a heavy dark-coloured rain court with the hood up. There may have been a pin or badge at the front of the jacket. He was also wearing shiny shoes or trainers with laces.
Detective Sergeant Laura Wright said: “This was a frightening incident for the woman involved and I understand it will be concerning for the community. We take reports of this nature extremely seriously and are carrying out a number of inquiries and reassurance patrols within the local area.
“I would urge anyone who has any information about the incident or who saw anything of note within the vicinity of the park around this time to get in touch.”
Any witnesses or anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 704 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
