Bromsgrove woman hits out at BDHT after having no heating since November

A WOMAN with health problems has slammed Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (BDHT) after being left without heating since November.

Wendy Holloway, who lives in the property in Charford, said several people had been out to look at the boiler but nothing seemed to be resolved.

Mrs Holloway is disabled with an inoperable back injury and suffers with PTSD from her time in the armed forces and her husband has COPD and asthma so the cold conditions have been affecting his breathing and general health.

She said: “We keep being told it is to do with parts but this has been going on for three months now and it’s not good enough.

“They have given us some oil radiators and £350 compensation to cover the cost of running them but it is not enough.

“Everytime we need hot water for cleaning or washing up we need to boil a kettle which costs extra money and we can’t have a shower because the bathroom is too cold.

“We can’t use the radiators in the bathroom because they are electric and we would need to use extension leads to get them in there which is dangerous.

“We have spent the past ten weeks wearing layers and layers of clothing in our own home just to keep the cold out.”

Graeme Anderson, BDHT chief executive, said: “In November we were notified the heating was not working at the property.

“BDHT investigated the situation and the manufacturer was called in for specialist repairs.

“Several parts have been replaced which have subsequently failed.

“A new part is on order to hopefully finally fix the situation and get the permanent heating back up and running.”

He added the new part was due to be fitted this week, adding BDHT provided stand-alone oil radiators for the home.

“We have compensated for any additional heating costs incurred due to the use of temporary heating, while the issue is being rectified.

“We have been in regular contact with Mr and Mrs Holloway and we are sorry for any inconvenience experienced and hope to have the situation resolved imminently.”
