A WOMAN and a girl escaped a serious house fire in Northfield yesterday evening.

It happened in the front bedroom of the property in Rhayder Road, off the Holloway, at 5pm.

Crews from Northfield, Woodgate Valley and Kings Norton attended the scene.

The woman and girl had got out of the house before fire crews arrived.

They were given precautionary checks by West Midlands Ambulance paramedics who also attended.

A cat and two rats were rescued by fire service personnel wearing breathing equipment. The cat was given oxygen therapy by fire crews.

Crews then ventilated the property and checked for any signs of fire in adjacent properties.
