A VISIT from round the world team yachtsman George Blakeway inspired staff and children alike at Winterfold House School in Chaddesley Corbett.
Mr Blakeway, who was recently a member of the Ha Long Bay Viet Nam, Clipper Round the World Yacht Race team, talked about the 30-day race in which he sailed the stretch between Portugal and Uruguay.
The pupils were enthralled by the presentation where they learned about the tough conditions often experienced at sea, including a 30 to 40 degree tilt of the yacht and a fast speed the equivalent of 29.7mph.
Mr Blakeway said cooking on board was particularly tricky and the children were intrigued by the fact there was no shower on board and the crew kept clean using seawater.
The team of 21 people worked four hours on, four hours off, with half of the team on deck racing the boat, with the other half either sleeping or eating.
The yachtsman held a question and answer session with the children who asked him if he got seasick and could fish really fly.
He ended his motivational talk by urging the children to ‘be curious and find your own adventure’.
