Winterfold School pupils learn about the Gunpowder Plot with interactive session

Bromsgrove Editorial 5th Nov, 2019   0

CHILDREN from Winterfold School have spent today learning about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.

The youngsters found out about what people used to wear, places they used to work and were amazed to find both adults and children drank beer instead of water and did not wash.

After designing a wanted poster for the gunpowder plotters, year one pupils learned all about the events leading to the discovery of John Johnson – the name Guy Fawkes gave when he was captured by the King’s men who were guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder.

The quantity was enough to reduce the House of Lords to rubble.

After being tortured, he was forced to sign a confession to his role in the Gunpowder Plot and signed it as Guido Fawkes.

Year one teachers Miss Richardson and Mrs Williams said: “Thanks to Discover History, the children had a very interactive session, learning why we celebrate Bonfire Night and the history behind it.

“They are eagerly awaiting our fireworks display.”
