A YOUNG cyclist who has been pedalling his way through the lockdown will take on a 100km cycle in one day to raise funds for Charford First School’s Parents and Friends Association.
William Lewis and his dad have mapped out the route which will take them from their home in Finstall, around Bredon Hill to Tewksbury and back again.
They will be saddling up on the last Wednesday or Thursday of term, depending on which day is more favourable weather-wise.
Proud mum Catherine said: “He has always been a good runner but during the lockdown has really come into his own with the cycling.
“He’s been out on his bike so much and is determined to finish the 100km.
“My husband tried the route and it took him four hours to complete so we are dedicating the whole day to it.
“William’s due to leave the school this month so this will be his parting gift.”
The school usually holds a variety of events to raise funds, such as the summer fayre and leavers’ disco but this year they have all had to be cancelled.
The cash raised will go towards equipment, such as work books and reading diaries.
