Westminster Diary - Northfield MP urges residents to fill in crime survey

Gary Sambrook writes for the Standard.

What a month! Last time I wrote in the Bromsgrove Standard I was congratulating our England Team for their amazing performance. This month it’s been an epic Team GB Olympic performance with 65 medals, 22 of them being Gold.

Once again Birmingham has been out on the world stage ahead of hosting the Commonwealth Games next year in 2022 with our very own Galal Yafai getting a gold in the boxing at the Olympics.

Locally it’s recess so I’m in Birmingham Northfield meeting with groups, businesses and residents in and around the constituency.

One of the things I’m focusing on this summer is crime. Since becoming an MP this has been a persistent issue and it’s an issue which was core in my election too. We’ve seen an extra 740 officers recruited in the West Midlands and I have had the pleasure of going on patrol with some of the local officers.

In the coming weeks, I’m set to go on more patrols with the local police and meet with officers at the response centre in the city centre. This allows me to use my resources as a Member of Parliament to link up residents with the police and encourage people to report crime.

As the smallest bit of information can sometimes be the missing piece to the puzzle to help solve a crime or for the police to be able to get a warrant to make an arrest.

Keeping our communities safe is vital and I will do all I can to make sure that this is delivered for local residents. You can fill out my crime survey online at garysambrook.co.uk/form/crime-survey
