West Mercia Police plea after increase in accidental 999 calls

Bromsgrove Editorial 10th Nov, 2021   0

WEST Mercia Police have issued a plea to residents about ‘accidental’ 999 calls after receiving an influx of them in the past few days.

A number of times phones being knocked in people’s pockets led to calls to the force’s Operations and Communications Centre which could have been diverting call handlers from genuine emergency calls.

People are advised – if they do call the police or other emergency service by mistake – to stay on the line and explain what has happened. This prevents concerns from the call handler and the need to try and ring the person back.

The force has also been receiving a high number of non-emergency calls.

People are being advised that: ‘If it is not 999, report it online’ at westmercia.police.uk
