BROMSGROVE District Council has launched its website for people to have their say on the plans for the former Market Hall site.

Central to the proposals are a community hub for local groups of all ages – from scouts and brownies to older people – to hold events, meetings and get-togethers.

The plans also include a landmark building with flexible office space, business start-up and co-working spaces and restaurants and bars on the ground floor.

The Spadesbourne Brook will also be opened up at the centre of the site, providing a water feature with steps where people can sit, particularly during the spring and summer months.

The curved nature of the main building provides public outdoor space around it where events, such as dining clubs, markets and other activities could be held.

How to have your say online…

People were able to fill out forms to give their views during two consultation sessions held last Saturday and on Monday but many said they were unable to make either of the events.

Bromsgrove District Council has now put up a designated web page here where people can view the plans and have their say.

How is it being funded?

Works to regenerate this important town centre site are funded through a £14.5million grant secured by the council from the Government’s Levelling-Up Fund.

The successful Levelling Up Fund bid put forward proposals to create a vibrant new commercial and cultural hub for the town centre.

As well as the former Market Hall site, the cash would also be used to level the Windsor Street site and prepare that for a future planning application.

What happens now?

The proposed plans will be subject to both cabinet and planning approval.

People are being urged to have their say on the plans so all their comments can be taken on board.

Once received, the council will look at what people like and do not like and can alter the final plans accordingly.

People can click here to view the proposals and have their say on the council’s website.

They can also email their views to [email protected]

Timescale for the plans and development

The Cabinet will consider the final report and the finalised planning application (including a statutory consultation period) will be submitted before June 2023

The application will be considered by the planning committee in June 2023.

Work is due to start before January 2024 with construction beginning next March.

The building work will be completed by March 2025 with buildings available for tenants in the summer of 2025.
