WEATHER UPDATE - Storm Darragh causes closures in Bromsgrove and Longbridge

Bromsgrove Editorial 7th Dec, 2024 Updated: 7th Dec, 2024   0

STORM Darragh has caused several closures across Bromsgrove and Longbridge.

Rail disruption

West Midlands Railway said there will be no more trains on the Cross City Line between Birmingham New Street and Bromsgrove and Redditch, including Barnt Green, Alvechurch, Longbridge and Northfield for the rest of the day.

Bromsgrove District Council has confirmed that today’s High Street Market has been cancelled.

In Longbridge, the McDonald”s drive-thru is shut today (Saturday) and Herbert’s Yard has closed.

In a statement on its social media pages, Herbert’s Yard bosses said: “We’re absolutely gutted to say that Storm Darragh has won and we can not safely open the venue today. Yours and our teams wellbeing is the most important thing and comes before anything else.

“Apologies to the groups who had booked in and anyone else who was looking to join us today. Also to our traders who have prepped and will lose a days trade.

“We hope to be back open tomorrow once it’s settled down, we will update in due course.

“Most importantly stay safe everyone. Look out for your neighbours.”

The Met Office forecasts high winds – up to 60mph in Worcestershire – and heavy rain throughout the day.

It will come as a blow for traders as today is Small Business Saturday and FREE parking is available in the town centre car parks.

Yesterday Webbs of Wychbold confirmed it was cancelling its Enchanted Gardens Christmas trail – also due to Storm Darragh.
