BROMSGROVE residents will be giving up their Christmas to look after homeless and abandoned pets currently staying at the Bromsgrove Blue Cross.
Volunteers will be give the pets an extra special Christmas lunch, help them open their presents and provide festive fun and cuddles.
Some volunteers will also bring small gift-wrapped toys and treats to give to pets.
Les Crook has volunteered at the Blue Cross in Bromsgrove for 11 years and will be taking the time to buy and cook a fresh chicken at home to ensure the centre’s cats and dogs can tuck into a festive treat on Christmas Day.
“Christmas should be a special time of year, not only for people and children but also for animals.
“To show them your love and affection and in return to not only see their response to you but to feel it too is such an overwhelming experience.
“It touches my heart still, even after 11 years of volunteering.”
Gilly added she would be volunteering at the centre across Christmas and Boxing Day.

“It is a time of year when it’s important to all look after each other and our pets and so I can spend some of my spare time to care for them, and in return, they will help my wellbeing.”
Deborah Knott, the Bromsgrove Blue Cross’ volunteer co-ordinator, said: “Our volunteers really are priceless and make such a difference to the pets in our care.
“We know how busy Christmas is for people, so even more than ever, we really appreciate our volunteers going out of their way to help more pets in their time of need.”
