THE WYTHALL Memory Cafe has received a £1,700 cash boost from village councillor Adam Kent after he successfully completed the London Marathon in October.

The cafe is making a world of difference for residents and their families touched by dementia and memory loss.

Staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers and supported by generous funding from local businesses and residents, the cafe offers a welcoming space for guests to enjoy coffee, tea, cake, and a variety of activities.

From live bands to away days, the Memory Cafe continually strives to provide a rich and fulfilling experience for its visitors.

Coun Kent, who has also donated further cash through his county council divisional funds and fund-raising, said: “The cafe is a shining example of how community involvement can create a positive impact on the lives of the disadvantaged.”

Speaking about his marathon experience he added: “Well, what an incredible day – nerves, pain, then joy that I actually managed to finish my second London Marathon, raising money to help the community with memory loss, dementia, and loneliness.

“The atmosphere at the event was absolutely incredible with thousands and thousands of spectators and supporters.”

Coun Kent also plans to run London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday, April 2, followed by the full Longon Marathon on April 23.

This time, Coun Kent is raising funds for Dementia UK and its outstanding Admiral Nurses who provide expert support and advice to families affected by dementia, complementing the community work done at the Wythall Memory Cafe.

Memory Cafe volunteer Di Taylor said: “I’m really grateful for the support Adam has afforded the cafe.

“It’s made a real difference and allows us to put on several trips for the residents this year.”

Fellow volunteer Dr Christine Whittaker added: “Adam helped with funds for the memory garden and furniture, and I’m really pleased he is now helping Dementia UK.”

Coun Kent added the memory cafe was testament to the power of community support and engagement.

“By working together and lending a helping hand, the people of Wythall have created a haven for those affected by dementia and memory loss, showcasing the profound impact a community can have when it comes together for a common cause.”
