THE LAUNCH of a new film about Bromsgrove’s current poets who live or have lived in the area was officially launched last Friday.

It has been created by Bromsgrove film-maker Maz Salmou and had its premiere was at the town’s Methodist Centre.

The aim of the piece was to encourage local people to express their own poetic sense Bromsgrove.

Writers were invited to submit their work and a group chaired by Jo Freeman of Severn Arts, Huw Moseley, Bromsgrove District Council arts officer and several others chose the eight poems which feature in the new film.

The poets featured are Faith Taylor, currently Young Poet Laureate for Worcestershire, Rachel Broad, Michael Hurst, Anna Dear, Margaret Evans, Gwyn Evans, Pat Leighton and Jenna Plewes.

Maz Salmou directed the film and chose the locations with Margaret Evans co-ordinating the people and places.

Maz is a Syrian, who has lived in Bromsgrove for three years, has built up an excellent reputation locally for his work.

The film is threaded through by Faith Taylor’s poem ‘Sparrow’ and shows Bromsgrove from dawn to dusk with music played by local musicians Charlotte and Alastair Moseley.
