THREE pensioners from Bromsgrove shared what advice they would give to their younger selves if they had a chance to go back in time.

The Chandler Court residents joined hundreds of other women from across the UK, on International Women’s Day, to share what they think the young women of today should know.

The advice overwhelmingly focused on ‘being yourself’ and ‘enjoying life to the full’.

Margaret Crowther, aged 91, said: “Make sure you know what you want and be determined to do it.”

Anne Gallagher, 82, said: “I agree with Margaret, go for it and give whatever you do your absolute best shot.

“And don’t give up at the first hurdle.”

The ladies, who live on Recreation Road, said it was important to always do what makes you happy despite what others may say.

Betty Cooper, 90, added: “As you go through life you must make your own mind up about things – but also watch your step as you’re doing it.”

International Women’s Day is a global event which has been going since 1911.

It celebrates the achievements of women while also calling for a more gender-balanced world.

Jo Gill, home manager at Chandler Court, said: “It’s been fantastic to have the chance to share the residents’ stories.

“Their positivity and confidence is a true inspiration and we hope that it will motivate others to share their own achievements and successes in the future.”
