A MAN has been arrested in connection with an attempted child abduction in Longbridge yesterday (April 30).
A 63-year-old man was arrested and is in West Midlands Police custody. He is being questioned on suspicion of attempted child abduction.
The incident happened on Bristol Road South, at around 11.30am on Wednesday (April 30) when a man approached a four-year-old child and a woman.
Police reported that a man had attempted to grab the child’s arm but was stopped by the woman before fleeing towards McDonalds on the same road.
Further police enquiries have now established that no physical contact was made with the child.
Neither the woman nor the child involved were hurt but the police are offering them full support as the investigation progresses.
West Midlands Police empathised with the community at how distressing this must be, but clarified they believe it to be an isolated incident.
Local officers are continuing to patrol the area for reassurance and have urged anyone with concerns to speak to them.
