UPDATE - Bromsgrove Planning Committee defers Perryfields and spine road decision

BROMSGROVE District Council’s planning committee has deferred the decision on the reserved matters application for the Perryfields development.

The proposals have been met with controversy by residents with developer Taylor Wimpey accused of altering the spine road.

Campaigners say the route as agreed by the Planning Inspectorate was direct between the Kidderminster Road to the Stourbridge Road and would have taken traffic through, reducing traffic delays. But they added several bends and a 20mph limit mean it would not be as attractive to drivers who would use other already congested roads as rat-runs.

The delay was voted through to enable site visits by members of the planning committee. It would also be requested that Worcestershire Highways officers visit the site to see it first hand.

Coun Sue Douglas asked if the site visits could be held as soon as possible so the application could be brought back to planners before the election. But she was told that was not possible and it was likely it would come back before the committee in May or June.

By then, there could be a whole new-look district council and, with it, a different planning committee.

On May 4, all the seats on Bromsgrove District Council will be contested.
