THE unveiling of an information board to honour the ‘important’ centenary of Birmingham’s tram network reaching Rednal amassed around 40 budding history buffs.

The board, located at Elliott Gardens land to the rear of Lai Ling Restaurant, on Lickey Road was unveiled on April 27 by Baden Carlson – Lickey Hills Society secretary.

It features photographs and information to honour the historic trams which brought thousands of visitors to the Lickey Hills for 28 years from 1924 until its final trip in 1952.

A spokesperson for the society said: “Initial comments about the board have been very positive which is most pleasing.

“We hope that people will find the board interesting and informative and for some, rekindle happy memories of times past.

“Grateful thanks are due to all the team members who worked so hard over many months to turn an idea into reality.”

The board is situated next to a large section of 100-year-old tram track which remains and has been cleared.
