TWO pupils from Chadsgrove School in Bromsgrove recently completed their work experience as theatre ushers at Redditch Palace Theatre.

On December 17, James and Jayson directed audience members to their seats before they watched this year’s pantomime, Aladdin.

They also picked up litter after each performance during the day.

Chadsgrove School’s learning co-ordinator, Emma Nolan, said: “This opportunity has helped our pupils to develop their skills and gain first-hand work experience.

“It forms a key part of our ‘careers and business enterprise strategy’ which aims to improve their futures.”

The placement was made possible with the help of Anne Jeil-Harrison from Mencap, who has been supporting the school by finding work experience for its students.

Emma added: “Chadsgrove School is a special school for pupils with physical disabilities and moderate to severe learning difficulties.

“Many of our pupils would make hardworking, enthusiastic and reliable employees across a variety of sectors, they just need to be given the opportunities.

“So we are extremely grateful to Owen Goodgane at The Palace Theatre for giving our pupils this amazing opportunity to experience life working in a theatre.”

If other local companies would like to get involved with the careers education project, contact Emma Nolan on 01527 871511.

Aladdin runs at the Palace Theatre until next Sunday, January 6.
