THE MAIN A38 in Bromsgrove is set to reopen after being closed for several hours.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council, said: “A temporary repair has been completed on the A38 in Bromsgrove, and the road is due to reopen shortly. Cadent will remain on site until 11pm to monitor and return tomorrow (from 8:30am) to carry out further work.”

Officers from West Mercia Police assisted engineers from Cadent Gas and the fire service following the incident the afternoon.

The stretch that was shut ran from the traffic lights near the KFC and South Bromsgrove High School, all the way to the Oakalls island.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and – with school finish times and rush hour – it could not have come at a worse time in the day.

The surrounding roads are expected to get busier as rush hour approaches.
