THERE is heavy congestion near Northfield Station after a crash this morning involving a van and a car.
The collision happened where Church Hill meets West Heath Road, near the railway bridge and Station Road, around 7.30am.
West Midlands Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service and the fire service attended the incident.
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an ambulance and paramedic officer to the scene.
The driver of the car, a man, was cut free from the vehicle with the assistance of fire crews and treated by ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious. He was taken to University Hospital Birmingham for further treatment. The driver of the van was not injured.
West Heath Road was closed in both directions while the emergency services dealt with the scene.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Church Hill, Northfield, at 7.30am after a crash involving a car and a van.
“Officers attended and closed the road while fire and ambulance staff dealt with the incident.
“A man in his 80s was taken to hospital for further treatment.”
The crash has had an impact on surrounding roads and Quarry Lane is also heavy.
