FIRE crews from Redditch, Bromsgrove and Northfield were called out to a vehicle fire on the M5 involving a demounted trailer carrying scrap metal in the early hours of this morning (June 1).
Hereford and Worcester and West Midlands fire crews were called out to the blaze at 3:38 am between junction 3, Quinton and junction 4, Bromsgrove.
The trailer was found well alight and was fought by four firefighters using various equipment with the help of a water carrier from Evesham.
The northbound carriageway was closed for safe working and because of heavy smoke reducing visibility.
Due to ongoing works, lanes one and two were closed with delays of up to 30 minutes and five miles of congestion on approach. All lanes have now reopened.
There were no casualties due to the incident.
