BROMSGROVE Sporting under-9s played in front of their biggest crowd of the season, with the town’s district council chairman, Coun Sam Ammar also in attendance.

Sporting’s youngsters produced a good performance against a well-established and organised Droitwich team at Braces Lane.

The under-9s played with a full squad for the first time this season enabling all of the girls valuable game time. Despite the result, Sporting put some good passing moves together and had plenty of positives to take from the fixture.

Coun Ammar spent time after the match meeting all of the girls and offered words of encouragement and praise.

Under-9s manager Craig Robinson said: “It was great to have Coun Sam Ammar supporting our under-9s girls team. She also brought the weather with her with blue skies and sunshine. Her attendance also encouraged other supporters and spectators to come along as we saw the biggest crowd/support for the girls yet this season at a home match.

“Myself, assistant manager Amy and the club’s head of women’s and girls football, Alan Williams, also had time to chat with Sam.

“We discussed the struggles and difficulties presented to us with getting more and more girls involved with football and the lack of options for grounds to train on especially winter venues such as 3G pitches.

“As well as the huge rewards and benefits in what we have already achieved in such a small amount of time, the most important thing is that all the girls have fun, make new friends, become part of a team that teaches them team spirit and gives them added confidence they can take into their everyday lives.”
