Town centre improvements done and dusted in Bromsgrove

Bromsgrove Editorial 4th Dec, 2024   0

THE TOWN centre of Bromsgrove has turned a new page with the completion of significant upgrades to the high street.

The transformation of the High Street was wrapped up ahead of schedule at the end of the summer, and Chapel Street has now followed suit with its own enhancements.

This project was part of a town centre improvement scheme funded by the UK Government, aimed at revitalising public spaces and boosting economic growth.

New natural stone paving, street trees, modern cycle parking, stylish benches, improved drainage and the removal of outdated street clutter, such as old signs, have completed the town’s new look.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, expressed his enthusiasm.

He said: “These upgrades have truly transformed the area, making it more appealing for businesses, residents, and visitors alike.

“It’s not just about aesthetics, these improvements are fueling economic growth and creating jobs. I’m thrilled to see the momentum of the High Street work continue into Chapel Street. The end results are truly impressive.”

Councillor Bayliss also extended heartfelt thanks to the community for their patience during the works as many businesses along the highstreet were frustrated by the works’ impacts on footfall and atmosphere along the high street.

Coun Bayliss added: “We understand the closures and restrictions were a challenge, but the results speak for themselves. Thank you for sticking with us through the process, it’s been worth the wait.”

Pedestrian access to all frontages was maintained during the works.

Leader of Bromsgrove District Council, Councillor Karen May said: “Along with our County Council Partners, we have not only made structural improvements to this area but created a space which is functional and looks wonderful too.

“I am proud of the results and am confident it will help boost the footfall to our town and its businesses.”

This revitalisation effort is the result of a successful funding bid by Bromsgrove District Council, with Worcestershire County Council collaborating to deliver these impressive public space improvements.
