THIEVES were forced to flee empty-handed after smashing their way through the front wall of the Co-Op and Post Office in Bromsgrove last night.

The raid happened around 11.30pm at the shop in Gilbert Road, Charford.

Police attended  the incident where it was found nothing was stolen but substantial damage had been caused to the property.

Reports suggest a vehicle was used to ram raid the building in a bid to get to a cash point.

The building has been left with a gaping hole in the wall and it looks like most of the shop front will need replacing.

West Mercia Police are investigating and enquiries are ongoing.

A  Co-op spokesperson said: “There was an incident at our Bromsgrove, Gilbert Road store during the night.

“The store is currently closed and we appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward to the Police, who are investigating.”

Witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
