THE GIRL on the Train and David Walliams’ Ratburger proved to be the most popular books of 2017 in Worcestershire.

Comedian Walliams’ book topped the most borrowed junior titles list in 2017, with 547 loans.

While Paula Hawkins’ Girl on The Train came first in the adult fiction list after being borrowed 1,317 times.

Lee Child found himself in the adult fiction top five twice, with Make Me coming in second and Night School finishing third.

Walliams found himself in the junior top five again with Billionaire Boy coming in third with 481 loans, just pipped to second place by Jeff Kinney’s Hard Luck, which was borrowed 491 times.

In the adult non fiction list, Susan Jeffers Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway topped the pile with 279 loans.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for Communities, said: “It’s always interesting to learn what the most borrowed books of the year have been.

“These figures go to show how popular our libraries are and how people continue to choose libraries to borrow books so they can tick them off on their reading lists.

“Our libraries stock such a wide range of titles for all tastes. Why not head down today and see what’s on offer.”

The figures relate to all 21 public libraries, the Mobile Library Service and two volunteer run library links at Welland and Martley

It was revealed last month that more people are visiting Worcestershire’s libraries, with numbers for 2016/17 up by almost 60,000 – meaning the county is bucking the national trend of declining visitor numbers to libraries.

The annual figures from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) showed visits increased from 2,770,023 in 2015/16 up to 2,827,561 in 2016/17, a rise of 57,538.
