'Thanks to all our customers' - Popular Bromsgrove tea room celebrates its first birthday

THE OWNERS of the Madhatters Tea Room on Bromsgrove High Street are celebrating the business’ first birthday.

Emma Turner opened the cafe with the help of her sister Sarah this time last year.

Emma came across the business opportunity by chance – after losing their dad over Christmas in 2021, Emma went in for coffee and cake and saw the notice in the window that new owners were being sought and then called Sarah.

Emma who lives in Charford and previously worked at Greggs has always wanted her own tea room so she decided to take it over.

And Sarah, who worked for the NHS at Moseley Hall Hospital and West Heath in south Birmingham, helped her with the initial launch.

Sarah said: “I was only supposed to be there for a couple of weeks to get the business of the ground but ended up staying.”

The Madhatters Tea Room offers breakfasts – using high quality sausages from fellow Bromsgrove independent Butcher’s Block, along with sandwiches, cakes and paninis.

They also run tea parties and private parties.

Sarah added: “Since taking over, it has gone from strength to strength.

“We have had lots of new customers of all ages.

“The tea room has a very friendly and happy atmosphere and we are getting more and more people come in all the time – mostly from word of mouth.”

The pair recently held a fund-raiser in aid of Marie Curie and raised more than £220 and are planning to hold another one – in memory of their dad – for Bromsgrove Blood Cancer UK.

Sarah said: “Being part of the community and helping charities is very important to us.

“We’d like to take this opportunity on our first birthday to say a massive thank you to Butcher’s Block and all our customers who have helped us get to where we are – we couldn’t have done it without you and we hope to see you very soon.”

Everyone is welcome to pop into the Madhatters Tea Room at 40 Bromsgrove High Street, call 01527 376139, visit the Facebook or Instagram pages or email [email protected]
