Tesla eyes up vehicle distribution centre in Cofton Hackett

AUTOMOTIVE giants Tesla are set to open a storage and distribution centre for its electric vehicles in Cofton Hackett.

Elon Musk’s company want to utilise a warehouse developed by St Modwen at The Cofton Centre industrial estate on Groveley Lane.

Tesla plans to use the site as a vehicle ‘delivery hub’ including the storage and distribution of cars which are purchased elsewhere and collected from the site by customers.

A non-material amendment has been approved by Bromsgrove District Council to adjust the car-parks layout and install electric vehicle charging points, and a wash-bay for vehicles.

Bromsgrove District Council has also accepted a planning application from the tech company to place illuminated and non-illuminated Tesla lettering and logos onto the facade of the facility.

The site lays where the former MG Rover plant was, with developers St Modwen hoping to return the previous economic benefits of the factory back to the area of Cofton Hackett.

Tesla’s intended usage of the building falls under the remit of planning permission granted to St Modwen in August 2021, which was confirmed by planning officers prior to submission of the non-material amendment.

The Standard has not been able to confirm a timeline for the site’s opening.

Tesla have been approached for comment.
