Teenager charged with murder of Ian Kirwan outside Asda in Redditch

OFFICERS investigating the death of Ian Kirwan in Redditch have charged a youth with his murder.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 11 March).

The charge relates to an incident on Jinnah Road on Tuesday 8 March that led to the death of 53-year-old Ian Kirwan from Redditch.

Formal identification has yet to take place but Ian’s family agreed to publish his name.




Yesterday (Thursday), a further three youths were arrested in connection with the incident, bringing the total arrested to 11.

Three youths from the south Birmingham area, including the 14-year-old charged with murder, remain in custody.


One youth has been released on bail.

Seven youths, also all from the south Birmingham area, have been released with no further action.

Redditch Asda has now reopened and Safer Neighbourhood Officers are maintaining a highly visible presence in the town.

Officers continue to ask anyone who was in the area of Asda around the time of the incident and saw, or captured on dash cam, anything that could help enquiries to please get in touch.
