A TEENAGE girl sustained injuries to her wrist and head after she was attacked with a knife in Northfield.
The 15-year-old was walking home along Shenley Lane around 7pm last Tuesday (February 1) when the man attacked her in Shenley Fields.
She managed to get home but needed surgery to a tendon in her wrist. Fortunately the head injury was superficial but she has been left very distressed by the incident.
Det Ch Insp Dave Sproson from West Midlands Police said: “This attack appears to have been totally unprovoked and has had a devastating effect on the young girl.”
He added police had a description of the attacker and had been trawling CCTV in the area for an image.
The man w as white, of large build and was wearing dark clothing, a dark blue face mask, a dark beanie hat and had a dark top on with the hood up.
DCI Sproson added: “We understand that attacks like this can be alarming to residents in the area, but we have had no further reports of similar behaviour and we have increased our patrols in an effort to reassure the public.”
He urged anyone in the area who witnessed suspicious behaviour or who had any information on last Tuesday’s attack to call police on 101 or submit details via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk
