Bromsgrove Editorial 8th Apr, 2024   0

A TEENAGE boy has been jailed for eight years for raping two girls on separate occasions in Birmingham, one of which took place in Rubery.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced after raping the girls on November 28, 2023 and on January 1, 2024.

In the first incident, the teenager spoke with a 16-year-old girl before raping her down a lane in Great Park, Rubery.

Then on New Year’s Day, just before 8pm, the rapist followed a 15-year-old girl off of a bus along the Sutton Road, Birmingham before raping her twice.

He was sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday, April 5. In addition to his custodial sentence, he will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order and sex offender notification requirements.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of rape on January 4, 2024 and was remanded in custody until last week’s court appearance.

DS Leanne Tully from our Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: “I want to pay tribute to the girls who were subjected to these appalling, opportunistic attacks for the courage and resilience they showed throughout our investigation.

“With this offender now held to account, I do hope the girls can begin to move forward with their lives.”
